Unicorns have taken over my house!

A few months ago I was asked to do a unicorn party, and I was so excited! I've always wanted to do a unicorn party! Specifically because of these unicorns! I've seen these all over the internet in balloon groups and they looked so cool! The problem was, the heads are made of heart shaped balloons. As it's not Valentine's Day, and unicorns are very popular right now, these balloons were both hard to find and very expensive (well expensive for balloons). With shipping one bag of 50 balloons would've been $20. I didn't have $20 to just throw out of pocket to try them for fun no matter how badly I wanted to. So when I had an order that required these and I could justify buying them, I was thrilled! And I think they look awesome!

My next challenge in this order was I'm really not very good at consistent art work. So for the pretty unicorn eye lashes on the 5 and the balloon unicorn head, I went online, found pictures of eyelashes, printed it out on card stock, cut it out, and then traced it. It was a lot of work but I'm really happy wit the results.

And, can we talk about this unicorn head for a second? This isn't going to mean much to people who don't make balloons but would you believe to make the attachment points for the flowers, I had to turn the white balloon inside out and attach three twisting balloons to it WITHOUT popping the balloon? It's harder than it sounds but trust me I worked hard on this and I'm very happy with the results.

Next, let's talk about this big beautiful masterpiece. I know, I know, "Lila, why is there a blanket on your floor?" THAT ONE SPOT ON MY FLOOR ALWAYS POPS MY PURPLE BALLOONS AND I GOT TIRED OF IT AND PUT THE BLANKET DOWN! No I don't know why it's JUST purple balloons that pop there, but they do!

Now that that's out of my system. I seen this style of column on Pinterest and thought it was gorgeous. This thing took 25 balloons (including the unicorn) and the unicorn comes off really easily because I realize my clients have to manage to get this thing home and shoving an 8 foot unicorn in the truck would be very hard, so it comes in 2 pieces. But I do have to say, I think this is one of the most beautiful things I've ever made.

Last but certainly not least is this big beautiful unicorn inspired 5! I was a little worried about this one. First, the fabric at the bottom was supposed to be a feather boa. But for some reason, no dollar stores had any plain white feather boas! But they did have this fabric boa and I'm surprised by how well it worked. I think the fabric adds a bit more grace to the piece, and the feathers would've taken away from it. Next, I couldn't get the ears to stand straight up, but I had some lollipop sticks lying around so put those on the back and now they stay up! then the flowers are all put on with rubber cement and tape, making what a consider a beautiful unicorn inspired 5.
